A Message From Simon Viklund

What an incredible journey it has been. I founded Overkill with a small group of very resourceful and dedicated friends – I was very blessed to be in that group – and as a part of this company, I have had the privilege of being on a ride from the basement to the top. Overkill was bought by Starbreeze and now the company is well on its way taking over the world!

With that said, I feel it’s time for me to seek out new adventures. Therefore, I’ve quit Overkill/Starbreeze to become a full time freelance composer. This fall I will become a mercenary of music, ready to contribute with my melodies and rhythms wherever they’re desired – be it games, commercials, TV-shows, movies or artists looking for songwriters. Know of a gig? Maybe suggest me!

I also plan to take more time for my personal music releases. You know that SimonViklund.bandcamp.com page I (almost) never put anything on? Yeah… I’ve got some projects in the pipeline that I plan to put out on Bandcamp and Spotify – so keep an ear out for that!

Now, me going solo doesn’t mean Payday 2 necessarily is changing much. I’ve been clear and told the people at Starbreeze that since I will be a hired gun, Starbreeze can hire me just like anyone else can. So if you – the fans of Payday 2 – make it clear to Starbreeze how irreplaceable I am *wink, wink* I’m certain those sweet distorted bass lines and hard hitting drums of mine will keep being added to the game (as well as the voice of Bain) for the game’s entire lifetime.

Lastly, I just want to say that I truly, truly appreciate everyone who has tweeted, emailed or YouTube-messaged me words of encouragement through the years – I love all my fans but those who send me heart warming messages I love just a little bit more!

Let’s all stay in touch through Twitter @SimonViklund, my website www.SimonViklund.com and my YouTube channel www.youtube.com/SimonViklund

Stay awesome, everyone.

– Simon
