PAYDAY release date update

By PAYDAY: The Heist
As many of you already know, the world has to wait a teeny weeny bit longer for Payday to hit the streets. We apologize for this, and we sincerely apologize for coming out with this information so late. It's just that we worked so hard - and kept hoping a punctual release would e possible - up until the very last minute. We've been nurturing this baby for 20 months - it's now full grown and ready to rock your socks off - but as it turns out we need…

A snack of quotes

By PAYDAY: The Heist
Previews of Payday: The Heist are still popping up in the internet - although more sparsely now, considering the game will be out soon and reviews (rather than previews) are to be expected. Anyway, here are two previews that were posted within the last 48 hours: "...it absolutely nails both the locations and the quality of the gunfights. The guys from developer Overkill (...) know how to polish up a game." /Dan Gril of Rock, Paper, Shotgun "It takes the multiplayer mechanic and spins it on its head for what…

A feast of quotes #2

By PAYDAY: The Heist
GamesCom ended this past weekend and gaming press were given the chance to play both the 1st World Bank robbery and the Diamond Heist on PC and PS3 - and it was glorious! We had development team members on the show floor demoing the game for visitors, and Ulf and Simon tag teaming journalists in SOE's press booth - rumor has it they did 90 interviews/demos between the two of them! Now, fresh previews of the game are starting to trickle onto the web. Here are a few links together…

Overkill & Payday at Comicon!

By PAYDAY: The Heist
Payday was playable at E3, but as you probably know that is an event that isn't open to the public. Comicon in San Diego, however, opens today and everyone can come and play Payday: The Heist. We'll be showing both the 1st World Bank heist that was playable at E3 and the Panic Room heist that was revealed to the press as late as last week! Overkill's Game Director Ulf Andersson is there and will make appearances in the PS3 panel upstairs. We'll be handing out Payday robber masks as…

Red Bull Soapbox Car Race

By PAYDAY: The Heist
OVERKILL entered the Red Bull Soapbox Car Race this weekend, with a getaway soapbox car of our own design! Well, it was actually more of a soapbox van! The concept of the car was of course robbers escaping after a bank robbery. Our lead animator Linus is not only a brilliant animator - he is also a rather prolific hobby engineer/mechanic, so the thing is his pretty much brainchild. Below are two great shots of the van and its drivers donning the iconic Payday masks. A mid-race shot, a split…

A feast of quotes

Co-optimus, a website focused solely on co-operative gaming (subsequently they have a great audience of co-op gamers), came by our booth at E3, and we really wanted them to see all our efforts to to make Payday the perfect co-op game. Now their preview is up, and we're happy to see that they loved the game! Here's a quote: "...I didn't know then, but I was about to play one of the best co-op games at E3." /Andrew Gaskill of Co-optimus   Co-optimus also gave us this pretty nomination for…

The E3 awards keep on coming!

By PAYDAY: The Heist
Two more noteworthy E3 nominations have appeared on the internet - and as humble as we wish we could be, we're still here just to tell the world. First off, there's FPS Guru, a website focusing entirely on FPS games. They have a slew of different "Best of E3" categories such as "Best concept" and "Best multiplayer", all exclusively reserved for FPS games. Payday won the category "Most innovative". Here's a snippet from the motivation: "It’s a pretty simple idea in some respects, but when you play the thing it…

E3 blow-out!

By PAYDAY: The Heist
We're back in Stockholm, Sweden after our visit to LA and the E3 convention. It was a busy week, but now we finally have some time to update our website! Payday was announced less than a week before E3 and became the surprise hit of the show. Our booth was constantly filled with people who played the game, and many were so hooked they came back for more the day after - and the day after that! To top it off, Payday received a whole bunch of award nominations from…
